Purpleheart Flooring Installation Guide

Step 1: Preparation

Good preparation is possibly the most important step in the entire installation process. Careful attention in this phase of the project can save you lots of headaches later on.

First, as soon as you receive your order of purpleheart flooring, inspect each plank for defects. An important thing to keep in mind is that since wood is a natural product, it will exhibit natural variations in color and grain. This is to be expected.

To make sure your finished floor has a unified appearance, we recommend opening several cartons of flooring and mixing them together in the work area.

Allow the wood to acclimate, or adjust to your local climate, for at least 7 days. During this period, the flooring planks should be kept in the same room where they will be installed. Your target moisture levels should be around 6-8%, and a dehumidifier may help with this process.

Finally, remove any base molding or doorway thresholds, and set them aside for reinstallation later on. Undercut all door casings about 3mm (1/8") higher than the thickness of the flooring planks.
